For any Viking warrior venturing into the unforgiving depths of the Deep North in Valheim 1.0, the journey is filled with brutal combat and icy exploration. But the true challenge often lies not in the fighting, but in unlocking the final gateways—specifically, facing a massive door guarded by an Intricate Key.
Finding this key is not a simple matter; it’s an epic, multi-stage quest requiring mastery over crafting, resource gathering, and strategic combat. You won’t find this key lying around; you have to forge it from the elements themselves.
The first step begins with exploration. Keep your eyes peeled for small, snow-covered villages nestled in the wilderness. Seek out the largest building in these settlements, a multi-story dwelling, and brave the interior. Delve into the unseen spaces, searching for a large hole in the floor that leads to hidden tunnels—tunnels that, as expected, will be filled with lurking enemies.
Within these icy passages, the real treasures hide. You must hunt for moulds, flat black rectangles etched with mysterious shapes. These moulds are essential, and you may need to smash piles of wooden rubble to uncover them.
To continue the journey, you need to gather crucial components. Look for glowing blue ice formations known as Frostcores overhead. These cores are the gateway to the next stage: crafting the Frost Foundry. To build this foundry, you’ll need a specific recipe: 10 Frostcores, 15 iron, and 20 stone.
But the heat of the forge isn’t enough. You must also harness the power of ice to create the necessary fuel. By using a black metal pickaxe on ice in the Deep North, you can harvest units of ice, which grants you the recipe for the Frigid Kiln. This kiln requires 10 Frostcores, 20 stone, and 5 ice, and remember to gather plenty of ice to keep the flames burning.
The most challenging phase involves securing the rare material needed for the final cast: bloodgold. This valuable resource is only obtainable by confronting and destroying the formidable Gammeltrolls. To prepare for this confrontation, you must first establish a base, collecting embers from the Ashlands boss Fader. Use these embers and seal pelts to craft ember charges, allowing you to subdue the petrified Gammeltroll remnants. By collecting the petrified tissue from the remains and smelting it in your blast furnace, you transform it into bloodgold.
With bloodgold secured, the final crafting sequence begins. Use five units of bloodgold and one Mould: Intricate Key to create the Cast: Intricate Key. Next, you introduce the Cast into your Frost Foundry, followed by liquid frost, created in your Frigid Kiln. This magical combination will yield the coveted Intricate Key, allowing you to unlock the Deep North and claim your victory.
