Wooting’s new 80HE+ keyboard features FR4 plate and new switches
Wooting is leveling up the competition in the mechanical keyboard arena with the announcement of the 80HE+ TKL keyboard, bringing a suite of significant hardware updates and highly sought-after custom options.
These enhancements build upon the innovations seen in previous models, incorporating changes first glimpsed on the 60HE V2. The new iteration focuses on refining the tactile experience and acoustic profile while maintaining Wooting’s reputation for performance.
At the heart of the design improvements is a shift towards durability and sound. The 80HE+ features a stiffer FR4 plate, giving users a more solid feel under the fingertips, paired with refined acoustic dampening to deliver a significantly more muted and focused sound profile.
Under the hood, the keyboard boasts updated switch options, introducing the Lekker Tikken switches housed in a closed-bottom design. This modification is engineered specifically to enhance the sound profile, allowing enthusiasts to fine-tune their auditory experience.
Beyond the core typing experience, Wooting is leaning into customization with unique physical features. The new models include the highly desired Lekker Large knob, offering an ergonomic touchpoint that many builders are eager to incorporate into their setups.
For those prioritizing layout flexibility, the 80HE+ module specifically offers a split spacebar configuration, available in 2.75u, 1.25u, and 2.25u variations. This level of layout choice is exclusive to the module version, providing builders with greater spatial freedom.
Wooting has also addressed material quality and durability, having revised its zinc-coating process to ensure superior longevity for the finished zinc models.
The availability of the keyboard comes in flexible package formats. Preassembled zinc models are available, featuring the 4u Lekker Large knob standard, while enthusiasts who prefer full control can opt for the module version, which includes a dedicated daughterboard for advanced custom builds.
Aesthetic choices are also expanded, with options such as a dark translucent top case available for the ABS Dark variant, alongside a fully assembled Frost option for a complete visual package.
With pre-orders set to open on September 17th, shipping is scheduled for mid-October, marking an exciting release for those looking to push the boundaries of mechanical input.
