Xbox Price Hike Now Live
The gaming console market has recently been shaken up by a significant price adjustment from Microsoft, with Xbox consoles seeing further increases in retail price. What was announced in late June has now translated into tangible costs for UK consumers, demonstrating how the value of next-generation gaming hardware is shifting.
As of August 2026, purchasing any current-generation Xbox console comes with a noticeable premium over previous pricing. While Microsoft initially shared US-only figures, the official rollout brought the true cost breakdown into focus for regions like the United Kingdom, revealing specific price ranges for various storage capacities.
The new pricing structure dictates that buyers can expect a range of costs depending on the model they choose. For example, the Xbox Series S consoles with 512GB storage are priced between £299.99 and £429.99, while the higher-end 1TB Series S models see prices ranging from £349.99 up to £519.99.
The premium extends to the more powerful Xbox Series X line. Consumers looking at a 512GB Series X can expect costs between £449.99 and £619.99, with the top-tier 1TB models ranging from £499.99 to £669.99.
When positioning these new figures against competitors, the comparison reveals interesting dynamics. Although the Xbox Series X remains competitively priced below Sony’s PlayStation 5 Pro, which retails at £789.99 and includes 2TB of storage, the standard disc-based PlayStation 5 offers attractive value at a lower price point than an Xbox Series X, costing as little as £569.99.
Despite these adjustments, the market reaction suggests that the recent hikes have not done much to revitalize sales for Microsoft hardware. There is speculation that this new pricing may further compound the challenges the Xbox platform has faced in selling units even at their original retail rates, leaving the question of whether the next generation will truly capture market share an open one.
